-
- I download news around 18:00 every day while I am eating. It is a
- mostly-automated process - which means that I am not monitoring whatever it
- is doing, nor can I select certain messages. The advantage of this is that
- it keeps connect time (and cost) down to a minimum. Normally it works well -
- except when certain people insist on posting huge binaries.
-
- It basically works like this: I start the news extraction process with the
- statement
-
- tin -c -S -f my_news_file -s News
-
- after which I pack it using LhA and 'sz' it to my Amiga. Binaries give me
- problems for two reasons:
-
- * it increases my connect time.
- * my account is limited to 2 megabytes. One or two binaries are enough to
- fill it up completely, after which the extraction process fails.
-
- Before you start whining (I use that word because of another posting you
- made - the one in which you used the word 'crying') that I should change the
- way I read news: why should I change what I do to accommodate others who
- cannot be bothered with simple nettiquette? In other words, are we to let
- clueless newbies run the net?
-
- Oh, and before you attack my newsreader (of all things): I do not use a
- newsreader. I have a utility called SpyNews which turns an entire directory
- of newsmessages into an Amigaguide file which I can then comfortably read
- using multiview. It's almost like having a news.datatype.
